Coeus Chronicles – Edition 4

Welcome to our 4th edition of Coeus Chronicles. In Greek mythology Coeus was a Titan respected for his intellect, resolve and gift of foresight. At Coeus Advisers we use these qualities to assist our clients to make the right decisions in the areas of taxation, business finance and investments.

During the summer Australia experienced the full force of mother nature, bushfires and flooding.  In these times of adversity the examples of courage, resilience, generosity and community spirit demonstrated across the country show that Australians are ready and willing in times of need.

The most disappointing aspect of the bushfire recovery effort has been how funds raised through the generosity of Australians have not been able to be applied to those most in need.  From those charities that have decided to “preserve” donated funds and to the well intentioned Celeste Barber who has raised $52 million which cannot be distributed to those directly affected it is clear that the desired outcomes have not been achieved. Whilst often our impulses are to react quickly to situations, taking the time to think through the longer term implications of our actions and decisions generally produces better outcomes. At Coeus Advisers we constantly remind our clients to think through those big decisions which will impact them for the long term.

We at Coeus Advisers have just celebrated our first 12 months of trading and we thank all of you who work with and support us.  It has been humbling and exciting to go out and do things our way and we look forward to continuing to make a difference in what we do for each of you.  As many of you may be aware we have secured new premises at Racecourse Road in Ascot which will reduce our daily commute to work to less than two minutes.  We look forward to opening the new premises in late March in our local community and to celebrating with as many of you as possible when we have our opening event on a date to be announced.

In this edition of Coeus Chronicles we look at the following:

  1. Fringe Benefits Tax – Getting the most out of the benefits you provide your employees;
