JobKeeper 2.1 – New Changes

The Federal Government has announced two significant changes to the JobKeeper Scheme which relax the eligibility criteria for employees and employers.

Employees

With effect from 3rd August the date of employment for determining employee eligibility will move to 1 July 2020.  This means:

  1. Any permanent employees which started with an employer between 1 March 2020 and 1 July 2020 may now be eligible for JobKeeper; and
  2. For casual employees the 12 month test is applied for the previous 12 months from 1 July 2020.

Note for employers – Check for any new recruits and long- term casuals who may now qualify for JobKeeper.

Employers

With regards to employers remaining eligible for JobKeeper:

  1. For the period commencing 28 September – businesses will only be required to demonstrate an actual 30% decline in turnover for the September 2020 quarter compared to the September 2019 quarter; and
  2. For the period commencing 4 January 2021 – businesses will be required to demonstrate an actual 30% decline in turnover for the December 2020 quarter compared to the December 2019 quarter.

Note for employers – Trading conditions over the coming months will determine your eligibility post September 2020.
